Give your player a new face

The player now ships five full-screen skins. Set a station-wide default in admin, and every listener can pick their own from the Appearance menu.

Until now, every listener saw the same player. Same layout for everyone: the disc, the waveform, the booth line, arranged one way. That has changed. The player is now a shell that loads a skin, and this build ships five of them.

What's new

A skin is a full-screen layout drawn on the same live data. The stream underneath does not change. Same now-playing, same requests, drawn a different way. Here are the five.

  • Classic is the original face, with a masthead, centre stage, waveform and transport deck.
  • Spool is a walkman deck. The whole station fits on one cassette.
  • Drift is ninety percent weather and ten percent type, where the cover art becomes the room.
  • Subamp is a compact modular player, with the deck, booth and log stacked like it's 1998.
  • TTY is the station as a live process, all panes and a status line where everything tails.

How to use it

You set the station default in admin. Open Settings, then Skin & Themes, and pick one under Player skin. It applies live on the next poll, no restart.

Listeners get their own say. In the player, tap the Appearance icon (the palette near the top of the header) and choose a skin under Player skin. That pick rides in their browser only, and it beats your default until they hit Use station default.

Why it helps

One station can read like a broadsheet on a desk monitor and a cassette deck on a phone, and the stream never changes underneath. Pick the face that fits your station, then let each listener bend it to how they actually listen.
